These ideas come from my long time friend Carrie. She is a mom of two and has recently decided to homeschool her oldest daughter, Ruby!
This is what she has to say....
Ruby just "graduated" from pre-K yesterday and we have decided to homeschool, so I have been looking into things to do around town that are fun, educational and cheap. I hope this idea doesn't end up being lame because Ruby will never let me hear the end of it; next week we'll be going to Amy's Farm in Chino (amysfarm.com) to tour the farm, learn more about the advantages of polycultural farming and, hopefully, pick a couple fruits and veggies. You can find other organic farms or "U-pick" farms that are in your area at pickyourown.org
In general, we like to go to the arboretum, farmers markets (especially the one downtown because we take the train and it's a big "to-do") and, of course, different parks all over the area.
Ruby LOVES taking pictures, so, once she gets bored of the usual, I whip out the cheap digital camera and let her go nuts. She'll spend half the day in the back yard taking pictures of random stuff. Kids are so freakin' cool.
Thanks so much Carrie! Can't wait to hear what else you will be doing with little Ruby on your adventures in homeschooling. Power to you girlfriend!!
