I'm back from my trip...pretty recovered from my jet lag, with tons of pics from my trip.
I arrived in Scotland on June 10, and had a bit of trouble getting into the country. I forgot my friend's address for customs, so I was detained, questioned quite a bit about how I know the Turners (how do you explain friendships through Rockabilly music and Viva Las Vegas?). Customs attempted to phone them, but they weren't at home since Lynn was at work and Keith was at the airport to pick me up. Keith didn't answer his mobile since it was a withheld number.
They finally decided I wasn't trying to enter illegally, and let me through "this time." I went to curbside pick up and found Keith's truck parked illegally, and just waited there for about 20 minutes figuring he would be back. Big hugs and we drove back through Edinburgh to his and Lynn's place. I'd been flying all night and was determined to stay up all day into the night to adjust my sleep schedule and it worked. That first day after a long afternoon visit with Keith and Lynn, we went to see our friend Kenny, who was playing sax at a pub that night.
The truck was parked illegally, so when some cops showed up, we thought they would want us to move, but they just wanted to talk to Keith about his truck. I had to snap a photo with the cops because they were so cute!
I discovered that it doesn't get dark until after 11 PM in June in Scotland.
On the way back to the Turner's place, we stopped and got some fried Mars Bars...mmmm....
That's it for my first day...I will write more about Edinburgh and Scotland later...I have to say that this trip was better than I had anticipated. My hosts were wonderful and all the people I met who I didn't know already were so nice. I am missing them all as I write this.
